Kyler Sweeley Got a Parking Ticket. Then He Voted to Make IT Go Away.

Sometime before April 10, Kyler Sweeley got a parking ticket in Topeka.

Then he did something about it.

On April 10, Sweeley voted to override Governor Kelly's veto of a provision in HB2513 that granted all 165 members of the Kansas Legislature free access to state-operated parking lots and garages. The governor had vetoed it. Sweeley and his colleagues voted to put it back in.

On May 4, a Limited Motion to collect a debt was activated in Shawnee County Court. The amount: $54.

He never showed up to court.

That's what this was about. Fifty-four dollars. An inconvenience most people just pay. Kyler Sweeley had a different option available to him, and he used it.
